Skook News was started on August 12, 2012 by Justin Reed, of Ashland, Pennsylvania.
What started out as just an idea for a Facebook page quickly turned into a new idea for a free news source for Schuylkill County.
With the need for this free source of news, Skook News quickly grew to be the fastest growing web site in Schuylkill County and the surrounding areas.
Jump ahead five years later to 2017, Skook News has become the largest and one of the most trusted online news sources with the coal region.
Since then, Skook News has become the first source for local organizations, non-profits, fire companies, police departments, local officials, and others to use to spread the word about events to Schuylkill County.
As of August 2017, SkookNews.com has been viewed over 17,500,000 times and has grown to over 40,000 social media followers between Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram combined. For the first time in June 2017, SkookNews.com officially reached 1,000,000 views within a one month time period.
Skook News now covers all of Schuylkill County, and parts of Berks, Carbon, Luzerne, Columbia, and Northumberland.
What also started with Reed being the sole writer/photographer/editor for the site, has now turned into a team of 3 that work continuously to bring you up to date news and information.
As Skook News continues to grow, we will strive to evolve with the changing times to keep news free for Schuylkill County.
