According to court documents filed by the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 5 when Reilly Township Deputy Chief William Kattner stopped a vehicle driven by Michael William Siegel, 31, of Pine Grove, for reckless driving and equipment violations.
During the stop, Siegel allegedly provided false identification before the officer discovered his real name and an active DUI-related arrest warrant issued by Schuylkill County detectives. When Kattner attempted to detain Siegel, he fled on foot.
Police say Kattner deployed a Taser in an effort to subdue Siegel. While the Taser appeared to slow Siegel down, the two became entangled, and Kattner suffered a right ankle injury in the scuffle. Despite the attempt to apprehend him, Siegel managed to escape on foot. Kattner was later transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Siegel was taken into custody on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025 and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Rossi on the following charges
- Aggravated Assault (F2) – for causing bodily injury to a law enforcement officer
- Resisting Arrest (M2)
- Flight to Avoid Apprehension (M2)
- Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot (M2)
- False Identification to Law Enforcement (M3)
- Simple Assault (M2)
- Careless Driving and other summary traffic violations, including driving with a suspended license (DUI-related) and driving without proper rear lighting.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 17th, 2025.
