OBITUARY: Ronald A. Mercuri, 60 of Pottsville

Ronald A. Mercuri, 60 of Pottsville, died unexpectedly Thursday evening at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown.

He was born June 13, 1962 in Pottsville and is the youngest son of John and Maria Mercuri, Pottsville.

He was a 1980 graduate of Blue Mountain Area High School. After graduating, Ron was the owner and operator of the West End Tavern in Pottsville before holding the position of Postmaster at several post office locations throughout Schuylkill County. He was a well-respected colleague and leader within all his workplaces, completing his career as the Postmaster of St. Clair before retiring in 2018.

Ron was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and was Chairman of the Board of Directors for CACL Credit Union.

Throughout his life Ron was a loving husband and father, a doting grandfather (Nonno) to his two granddaughters, a rock for his family, and a prominent pillar of the community. When not spending quality time with his family, he enjoyed spending his spare moments golfing with friends, reading, and going for long walks with his wife. He was a beloved man who lived his life with generosity, humor, and graciousness. He touched the lives of so many with his warm and compassionate spirit—He had a tremendous impact on his family, friends, and all those who met him. His loss will be felt deeply and he will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Ron is survived by his wife of 35 years JoAnne Mercuri (Kubeyka); a daughter, Alicia Gettel and her husband Cameron, Woodbridge, CT; a son Jonathan Mercuri and his wife Rachel Brown, Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Aviana and Sophia Gettel; two brothers, Domenic Mercuri, Pottsville; John Mercuri, Pottsville; a sister, Annetta Yackenchick, Schuylkill Haven; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9-10:45 AM on Wednesday at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Ron be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis TN 38105. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.
