PennDOT Announces Route 61 Frackville Grade Closure for October 31–November 2 for Traffic Shift

Route 61’s Frackville Grade between Terry Rich Boulevard in St. Clair and Interstate 81 near Frackville is scheduled to close from 3 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026, until 5 a.m. Monday, November 2, while crews shift traffic onto the newly constructed southbound side.

According to PennDOT, traffic will be detoured using Route 209, Route 901 and Interstate 81. Motorists should allow additional travel time and follow posted detour signs.

UPDATE: Attempted Homicide Charge Filed in Shenandoah Valley Stadium Stabbing

SHENANDOAH — A Frackville man accused of stabbing a juvenile during a football game at Shenandoah Valley High School Stadium now faces an attempted homicide charge after the original charges were withdrawn and a new criminal case was filed.

Jose Louis Nunez-Ovando, 42, faces seven charges in the new case, including first-degree felony criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide. The complaint also includes the six offenses listed in the original case.

Governor Josh Shapiro presented the awards to the surviving families during a ceremony at the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg, according to an October 5 news release from the Pennsylvania State Police.
