Mount Carbon Fire Destroys Home and Fire House, One Firefighter injured

Picture from Schuylkill County Firewire
This morning at approximately 4:30am, crews were called to 118 Main St. Port Carbon.  When fire departments arrived on scene, the home was already fully engulfed and quickly became a 2nd Alarm fire.

The house was a double block and authorities said that the house where the fire started was vacant.  A woman, Linda McElvaney, lived by herself in the house next door but she made it out.

Not long after crews arrived, part of the home where the fire started collapsed.  Directly next door to the fire was the Mount Carbon Fire Company.  Crews managed to save the vehicles inside but their chief said there is extensive damage to the building.

One firefighter was injured while fighting the blaze after he got in contact with a power line.  He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Fire companies from around the county responded with tanker trucks.
