Tractor Trailer Hit and Run In Tamaqua

-----TAMAQUA CRIME WATCH ALERT-----

FULL-SIZE TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVES OFF AFTER STRIKING SHED, FENCE, VEHICLE AND STOP SIGN TONIGHT ON SIDE STREET IN TAMAQUA Incident occurred around 11:30 PM tonight (Monday, Dec. 16, 2013).

A resident living near the intersection of Hazle and Federal Street (a small side street in the East End Ward section of Tamaqua) thought it was extremely strange to see a white full-sized tractor trailer turning east off of Federal Street onto US209 north. About 20 minutes later, that same resident walked outside to see her light blue Jeep Cherokee pushed onto the sidewalk.

When police responded and investigated, they noticed that the tractor trailer had also impacted and moved her shed off its foundation, as well as destroyed her fence. Further investigation showed that the tractor trailer also impacted a stop sign at the US209 intersection. The tractor trailer's tire tracks in the snow appear to stretch westward on Hazle Street all the way to South Greenwood Street. No injuries were reported.

Police are still investigating the hit and run and encourage anyone with any information or useful video footage to contact them. Their number is (570) 668-5000.
