Rapid Bridge Project Completes Three More Bridges In Schuylkill County

(Allentown) The Public-Private Partnership (P3) project to rebuild 558 bridges all across Pennsylvania over the next three years is wrapping up three bridge replacement projects in Schuylkill County next week.

  • Catawissa Creek Road (PA 339) bridge was closed for reconstruction in late July and will reopen to traffic the afternoon of Monday, October 19. The work was performed by Walsh Construction II.
  • Ridge Road (SR 4016) bridge was closed for reconstruction in late July and will be reopened to traffic the afternoon of Tuesday, October 20. The work was performed by Clearwater Construction, Inc.
  • Creek Road (SR 4039) bridge in the Village of Haas, Eldred Township was also closed for reconstruction in late July and will also reopen to traffic the afternoon of Wednesday, October 21. The work was performed by Walsh Construction II.
All three of the new crossings are longer and wider than the ones they replaced and are designed to last as long as 100 years.

The bridge replacements are part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a Public-Private Partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP) under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years. As part of PWKP, Walsh/Granite JV will oversee construction. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
