Blue Mountain Livestock Club Named Schuylkill County Outstanding 4-H Club

The Blue Mt Livestock Club for the second year in a row has been named Schuylkill County Outstanding 4-H Club.

The club was recognized at the annual Schuylkill County 4-H Achievement banquet held on November 13. The award is given to the club that shows outstanding commitment to the growth and development of youth in the community allowing their members to hone their skills at becoming good family members, citizens and future leaders.

Criteria for selection of this award is based upon various participating categories. The club is scored upon participation in Round-up with at least a 75% participation. Blue MT. Livestock Club did it with a 100% participation. Leader training is factored into scoring of the club. The Blue Mt Livestock Club is under the direction of Jill Felty and Kim Morgan who are vigilant in seeing that they get to leader training programs to be able to bring new and innovative ideas to the club. The club holds special programs throughout the year where they meet with other clubs in the area and do programs for the community. Members are exposed to setting up exhibits about what their club does in the community as well as getting the word out about what the club is involved in through 4-H news stories, talks, appearances on radio and TV. Members are also scored on participation in county and regional events. Members participate in 4-H camp. club tours, Achievement Night, Capital Days and PA Farm Show. This and educational activities, demonstrations, goal planning and games all done with in club meetings makes for a club that scores well when being evaluated for the Outstanding 4-H club Award.


The club recently celebrated their victory in being named Outstanding Club with a holiday meeting. The club has a membership of approximately 30 youth are from all over the county of Schuylkill and some members from norther Berks County. You could say from areas surrounding the Blue Mt. The Blue Mt 4-H Livestock Club generally meets on a Monday evening once a month.
