Saturday, August 20, 2016 – “150 Years of… Shenandoah!”

  • Sesqui Kickoff Parade – 11 a.m.
  • Opening Ceremonies & Picnic in Girard Park (bring lawn chairs!)
    • Combined SVHS & Alumni Bands
    • Presentation of Time Capsule
    • More local musicians & DJ Dan Helfer
    • Food & vendors
  • Buy your cards for our “4S” Shop & Save Event!
  • Opening of the Shenandoah Artists’ Exhibit (in the former Woolworth’s Building – Main Street; 2-6 pm)
  • Evening GSAHS* (7 pm)
    • Student essay readings
    • Presentation- “Brief History of Shenandoah, Part 1”
Sunday – “Faith and Family Day”
  • Afternoon at GSAHS* (11 am – 1 pm)
    • Cemetery maps/Family Tree Searches by expert local genealogist
    • Bring your family photo and/or family tree for our time capsule!
  • Shenandoah Artists’ Exhibit (1 - 5 pm)
  • Music - Main Street Veteran’s Memorial Garden
    • Shenandoah All-Star Polka Band (1 – 3:15)
    • Latino Music by DJ Cristhian Perez (3:30 – 5:30 pm)
  • Evening - Interfaith Service (6 pm – Girard Park)
  • Evening at GSAHS* (7:30 pm)
    • Student essay readings
    • Presentation- “Shenandoah’s Historic Churches”
Monday – “Youth Day” – “Happy Birthday, Shenandoah!”
  • Afternoon at Girard Park (all activities free)
    • Displays/presentations- Boy Scouts, Porcupine Pat, SPCA, Afghan military rescue dog; (11 am -4 pm)
    • Bounce house, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, and more! (1-4 pm)
    • Competitions for kids entering grades 3-8 (1-4 pm)
    • Karate demonstration & ice cream treats at 4 pm at Main Street Garden courtesy of Yuengling Ice Cream!
  • Evening GSAHS* (7 pm)
    • Presentation- “Brief History of Shenandoah, Part 2”
    • Student essay readings
Tuesday – “Arts Day”
  • Shenandoah Artists’ Exhibit (10 am - 8 pm)
  • Afternoon at GSAHS* - 1 p.m.
    • Student essay readings
    • Presentation- “Shenandoah Trivia! Let’s Play Jeopardy!”
  • Evening- Veteran’s Memorial Garden, Main Street
    • Arts/crafts/music tables and stations for kids
    • Sing Along with Steve and Paul – Can you “Hokey Pokey” and “Chicken Dance”? Learn here!
    • SV Cheerleaders will teach their favorite dances
    • Selections by Shenandoah vocalists
Wednesday – “Service Day”
  • Morning
    • Veterans’ Flag Raising Ceremony– Veterans’ Memorial Garden, Main Street
    • Coffee and Doughnut Social to honor our local veterans –in the Damato Post
  • Afternoon at GSAHS*
    • Student essay readings
    • Presentation- “Thank You for Your Service: Shenandoah’s Military & First Responders”
    • Tour nearby Schuylkill County Fire Museum
  • Evening
    • Flag lowering ceremony by Boy Scouts (5 pm); pizza social for Scouts
    • Medivac landing & brief presentation at Helipad (5:45-6:15 pm)
    • Service Organizations, fire trucks, ambulances and apparatus displays- East Washington Street
    • Free Blood Pressure Screenings by local RN’s
    • Schuylkill County Fire Museum open
Thursday – “Labor and Commerce Day”
  • Afternoon at GSAHS*
    • Student essay readings
    • Presentation- “Darryl Ponicsan’s Shenandoah of the 1940’s” – Special Guest, Darryl Ponicsan
  • Evening at Veteran’s Memorial Garden
  • Upper Schuylkill Band Concert
  • Meet Shenandoah Author Darryl Ponicsan
  • Winners of ongoing “Shenandoah Shop and Save” contest announced.
Friday – “SV School Spirit Day” – Decorate Your House in Blue & White for our Blue Devils!!
  • Afternoon at GSAHS* (1 pm)
    • Student essay readings
    • Presentation- “A Look Back at Shenandoah Schools”
  • Late Afternoon – 4 pm at Main & Oak Streets
    • Town-wide Pep Rally to send our Blue Devils off to their first game of the season! (game at North Schuylkill)
Saturday, August 27, 2016 – “Heritage & Diversity Day”
  • Heritage Day Parade – 10 a.m.
  • Afternoon- Ethnic foods and vendors along Main Street
  • Shenandoah Artists’ Exhibit (1 - 5 pm)
  • Fireworks at dusk! -Sponsored by: Ateeco, Inc.


Old-time movies– each evening about 8:30 at the GSAHS*
