Man Arrested for Threatening Woman with Rifle

On Wednesday(09/14/16),  just before 1:00am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to 802 W. Race Street for the report of an armed subject threatening to shoot another person.

While Police were en-route to the location additional information relayed from dispatch indicated that a woman had been threatened by Jonathan Reed, 39,  of Pottsville.  Police also learned that the woman was currently locked inside a bedroom in the residence along with her two children awaiting police to arrive.

On scene,  Pottsville Police with assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police encountered Reed as he exited the front door of the home unarmed. Police were able to secure Reed without incident and investigated the residence.

During the investigation, Police learned that Reed had become angry at the female victim and violently banged on the bathroom door to confront her while she had been taking a shower. When she finally opened the door she discovered Reed standing outside the door holding a semi-automatic rifle with his finger on the trigger verbally threatened her.  The woman fled into her children’s’ room on the same floor and locked herself inside while she contacted police.

Inside the home police recovered a semi-automatic CN ROMARM Model WASR-10 7.62 x39 caliber rifle with a 30 round magazine.  Other witnesses also reported to Police that they also had observed Reed with the rifle at the time of the incident.

Based on information presented to Police in their investigation, Police charged Reed with Terroristic threats, Simple assault by Physical Menace and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Reed was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko and remanded to Schuylkill County Prison with bail set at $25,000 straight cash.
