Man Charged with Assault After Shots Fired

A man was charged with assault after shots were fired Saturday evening.

On Saturday evening, around 11:00pm, Troopers responded to 283 Hickory Drive, West Brunswick Township, for a physical domestic involving a firearm.

Upon arrival, the Troopers determined Jason Markowicz, 35, who was heavily intoxicated, engaged in an argument with his girlfriend.

During the argument, Markowicz allegedly pointed a loaded pistol at her head.

The victim fled the residence and began to back a vehicle out of an attached garage on the property when Markowicz fired two shots at both left side tires of the vehicle. One round struck the left, front wheel well and an unknown projectile then struck the victim’s ankle causing a minor injury which did not require treatment. The other round is believed to have struck the left, rear tire, as that tire was flat.

Shortly after Markowicz fired the shots, the victim’s parents arrived at the residence and called 911.

Markowicz then fled the area on an ATV and drove throughout the thirty acre property which consisted mostly of woodland. Upon the arrival of the Troopers, Markowicz returned and was taken into custody.

A criminal complaint was prepared charging Markowicz with numerous offense including Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, and Reckless Endangerment. He was arraigned by on-call District Magistrate Stephen Bayer and lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $250K straight cash bail.

Officers from both Schuylkill Haven Borough and Orwigsburg Police also responded to assist.
