Man Caught Stealing Thousands of Dollars in Aluminum

On Thursday, a man was caught stealing thousands of dollars in aluminum.

According to Orwigsburg Borough Police, David Mengle, 29, of Saint Clair was arrested on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at approximately 5:20 am at which time he was caught in the act of stealing extruded aluminum from the Bartush Signs, Inc. 302 N. Washington Street in the borough.

Bartush Signs, Inc. initially reported missing extruded aluminum from their 605 Industrial Drive, Orwigsburg location on March 21, 2017.  Since that time, two additional thefts occurred before Mengle was caught in the act of committing this theft. 

The total value of the stolen aluminum is valued at approximately $10,000.  Mengle confessed to all four thefts and was arraigned before Magisterial District Justice Ferrier. 

Mengle was subsequently remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $5,000 straight cash bail.  A preliminary hearing has tentatively been scheduled for April 10, 2017 in this matter.
