One Injured in Interstate Crash During Rainstorm on Sunday Evening

A woman was injured Sunday evening in a crash during a rainstorm.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, around 9:00pm, Sunday evening a vehicle driven by Roberto Antigua, 67, of Hazleton was traveling south on Interstate 81 at milemarker 127, Ryan Township, through a heavy rainstorm.

The rear tires of Antigua's vehicle were reported to have been worn down past the tread wearbars.

Antigua lost control on the wet roadway, slid across both southbound lanes and exited the left side of the interstate.  The vehicle hitt a shallow roadside ditch, then the roadside embankment and rolled over onto it's roof.

Responders were able to free Roberto Antigue from the vehicle immediately, but required jaws-of-life to free the Matilde Antigua, 69, an entrapped passenger.

Both occupants had been seatbelted. No airbags deployed.

The passenger was transported to the Lehigh Valley Med Center East by the Ryan Twp Ambulance.

Also assisting at the scene was the Ryan Township Fire Company.
