Deadly Hamburg Fire Ruled Accidental

A deadly fire earlier this month in Hamburg has been ruled accidental.


On 09/02/17 around 11:30pm, the Union Fire Department in Hamburg responded to a residence heavily engulfed in flames in the 400 Block of South 4th Street. 

The fire was extinguished, but the residence is a total loss.

A pregnant female, and her 5-year-old and 2- year-old children were found deceased inside the residence by fire fighters. 

A male was able to escape from a bedroom window in the residence. 

The male has been hospitalized for his injuries.

Troopers from the State Police Troop L Fire Marshal’s Unit responded to the scene and investigated the incident. 

On Thursday, the Pennsylvania State Police ruled the fire accidental.

The fire was found to have been a result of discarded cigarette.  The fire reportedly originated on a first-floor rear porch. 

The investigation showed no evidence of any criminal intent.
