Northern Schuylkill County Police Take Part in Sobriety Checkpoint Late Saturday

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce conducted a checkpoint late Saturday to help protect the public from those driving under the influence.

Frackville Borough Police organized and were the arresting agency for the checkpoint that took place on Main Street between Mahanoy Plane and Gilberton on Saturday, April 14th, 2018.

Officers from various Northern Schuylkill County Police Departments assisted Frackville with the checkpoint included those from West Mahanoy Township, Mahanoy Township, McAdoo, and Danville.

Police made contact with drivers in the checkpoint in an attempt to detect any odors or impairments.

If any violations were detected, vehicles were moved to a staging area for further examination.

Over the course of several hours, 3 arrests were made for suspicion of driving under the influence (charges have not been filed pending blood test results), 1 arrest was made for an assault that occurred while approaching the checkpoint, 1 arrest for possession of narcotics, and 25 traffic citations.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided through the Highway Safety Network.
