Fern M. Woodring, 91, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and caring friend was called home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 to be with the Lord and those that have gone before her; especially her husband John “Whitey” Woodring, twin sister Frieda Oberman, and many dear friends.

Born on February 14, 1927 in Coaldale, PA, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Myrtle (nee Woodring) Schellhammer. A resident of Tamaqua, PA, Fern was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tamaqua where she was one of the “Blanket Ladies” who quilted blankets for those less fortunate. Fern cared deeply for those in her life and will be sadly missed!

She leaves behind daughters Linda Yellets of Cape May, NJ and Shelly Woodring of Tamaqua with whom she resided; sons, Jack Woodring with wife Alberta of Tamaqua, Ray Woodring with companion Debbie of Tamaqua, Robert Woodring with wife Irene of Hometown, PA, and Jim Woodring of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband and twin sister, Fern was preceded in death by brothers, William Schellhammer and Raymond Schellhammer.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 14 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Cindy White officiating. Interment in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown will follow the services. Call 6-8 PM on Sunday, May 13 and 10-11 AM on Monday, May 14 at the funeral home.

Catherine “Cathy” Bowers, 61, of Pottsville, passed away Monday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born July 20, 1956 in Long Island NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Antoinette (Kulisky) Dodds, Sr.

She was a graduate of the former St. Clair High School, St. Clair; and attended St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville. She retired this year from as a sales associate at Payless Shoes in the Fairlane Village Mall, Pottsville. Her hobbies included gardening and she was a fan of Judy Garland and the Wizard of Oz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Christine Zauner and a nephew Edward Stewart Jr.

Cathy is survived by her husband Charles J., Pottsville; daughter Joanie Williams wife of David, Pottsville; granddaughter Brittany; brothers Richard Dodds, Jr., Minersville and Michael Seaman, NY; sisters Ruthann Hossler, Minersville and Nancy Stewart, Long Island. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Joan Bowers, Pottsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market Street has been entrusted with arrangements.
