Two Inmates Face Assault and Robbery Charges After Incident in Schuylkill County Prison

Two inmates in the Schuylkill County Prison are facing assault and robbery charges.

On June 28, 2018, the Pottsville Police were contacted by Schuylkill County Prison officials in regards to an assault that took place on June 24, 2018.

Police learned that a 23 year old inmate from Tamaqua had reported that two other inmates, Trend Kopinetz, 23, of Pottsville and Daniel Lopez, 22, of St. Clair entered his cell at around 8:10pm on June 24, 2018 and demanded he give them his commissary food.

When the Tamaqua inmate refused, both Kopinetz and Lopez began striking him in him in the face.  As the man fell to the ground, Kopinetz and Lopez also kicked him in the face again before fleeing with his commissary.

The Tamaqua inmate was transported to a medical facility for treatment on injuries sustained from the assault. Based on results of the investigation by Corporal Charles Webber, a criminal complaint was prepared charging Kopinetz and Lopez with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Robbery, Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, Simple Assault and Harassment.

The complaints were filed in Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley's office and both will be arraigned in the near future.  Kopinetz and Lopez remain incarcerated at the Schuylkill County Prison.
