Worn Tires Blamed for Crash on Interstate 81

No injuries reported in Interstate 81 crash Wednesday in Ryan Township.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred just before 6:00pm, Wednesday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near Mile marker 126.6.

Police say at the time of the accident, a heavy rainstorm was effecting the area.   Axel Diaz Tatis, 24, of Hazleton was attempting to switch into the left lane when he lost control of the Honda Civic he was driving due to worn tires on the wet roadway.

The vehicle went off the left shoulder and struck a rocky embankment ripping off the front left wheel and suspension.  The vehicle spun once before coming to a rest.

Diaz Tatis was seat belted and was not injured in the crash.

Assisted police at the scene were the Ryan Township and Altamont Fire Company.
