Pottsville Police Arrest Man Wanted for Firing a Gun in the City

A Pottsville man was arrested on Wednesday after being wanted for a gun incident in the city earlier this month.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, On Wednesday August 1, 2018 around 5:50pm, Pottsville Police officers were dispatched to the area of N. 2nd St. and W. Arch St. for a report of a gunshot.

An investigation revealed that Kevin Warren Hargraves, 30, with a last known address in Pottsville, had been involved in an argument with two Pottsville women when he pulled a handgun out of his waistband and fired one round into the air before fleeing the area.

Officers received information as to where Hargraves had hidden the firearm when he fled and a .22 caliber handgun along with hundreds of rounds of .22 caliber ammunition were recovered by police.

A criminal complaint was prepared by Ptlm Joel Methven charging Hargraves with Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Sell or Transfer Firearms, Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Disorderly Conduct, and Pottsville City Code of Discharging of Firearms.

On Wednesday 08/15/18, patrol officers took Hargraves into physical custody pursuant to a Felony arrest warrant issued in this case.

Hargraves was found to be at 629 N. 2nd Street, Apt. 4 around 3:30am.

Hargraves unsuccessfully attempted to flee by utilizing the fire escape after being warned by a 25 year old Pottsville woman that police were outside the apartment.

Hargraves was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Rossi and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000 straight cash bail.

Charges against the Pottsville woman are pending the completion of a new investigation subsequent to her actions to hinder the apprehension of Hargraves.
