Pottsville Police to Conduct "Safe School Start" Patrols Next Week

The Pottsville Police will be conducting extra mobile and foot patrols with the start of school next week.

On Monday, most area schools start the 2018-2019 school year.

In order to raise awareness for the safe travel of all students in the city, the Pottsville Bureau of Police will be conducting extra mobile and foot patrols during the first days of school.

Utilizing a program initiated by their department in 2016 called “Safe School Start”, the additional uniformed officers will be conducting specialized patrols during the first days of school to concentrate on highlighting awareness of and compliance to existing Motor Vehicle Code laws with emphasis being placed on those dealing with school bus stops, speeding, distracted driving and seatbelt use.

Officers will also be focusing on promoting safe pedestrian travel practices by students who walk to and from their school.

Mayor James T. Muldowney, Chief Wojciechowsky and the Pottsville Bureau of Police ask everyone to cooperate in creating the absolute safest environment for our students by employing extra caution and vigilant safety practices not only the first week of school but also on a daily basis throughout the entire school year
