Saint Clair Man Facing Charges for Striking Pottsville Fire Police with Vehicle

A Saint Clair man is facing charges after admitting to striking a member of the fire police with his vehicle during an incident in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Thursday August 23rd, 2018 around 9:30am hours, Pottsville Patrolman Joseph Krammes was on patrol when he initiated a vehicle stop on a black Kia in the area of Centre St and Laurel Blvd.

During the course of Krammes interaction with Daniel Jefferson, 22, St Clair, the operator of the vehicle, Krammes developed information indicating Jefferson may have been the operator of the vehicle that struck a fire policeman last week on Peacock Street during a fire incident.

During a subsequent interview at the Pottsville Police station Jefferson admitted to being involved in the accident.

Jefferson stated that he did not see any obstacles in the area when the fire policeman indicated he should stop so he proceeded westbound past him on Peacock St. Jefferson stated that when he observed the fire trucks at the fire scene he turned around and at that time the fire policeman attempted to stop Jefferson from leaving.

Jefferson told police that he was “just gonna floor it” but then said he didn’t but did proceed to leave the scene.

Jefferson claimed that he did not know he had struck the victim.

Based on information received from the victim, an independent witness and Jefferson, Patrolman Krammes will be filing a criminal complaint charging Jefferson with Simple Assault, Recklessly endangering another person, Reckless driving and (lack of) Obedience to authorized persons directing traffic.
