Paul Bybell, 97, of Coaldale, PA died on Monday, August 27, 2018 in Coaldale. He was the husband of the late Marie (nee Sotak) Bybell who died February 12, 2002. 

Born in Coaldale on September 12, 1920, Paul was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (nee Matika) Bybell. A 1938 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1951. During World War II, Paul was stationed in the Pacific as a member of the U.S. Navy. He worked for the Atlas Powder Company in Reynolds, PA; ICI in Wilmington, DE; and Tyler Corporation in Dallas, TX. Paul was a member of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church in Coaldale. 

He is survived by sons, Daniel Bybell and his wife, Pamela of Medford, Massachusetts and David Bybel of Santa Clara, CA; daughter, Paula Reilly of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Danica, Grace, Brett, and Xena; and sister, Eve Dempsher of Bethlehem, PA. Paul was predeceased by brothers, Peter, John, Stephen, Andrew, Gregory, and William. 

Panachida will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 1 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Very Rev. James P. Weremedic officiating. Parastas will be held at 7:30 PM on Friday, August 31 at the funeral home. Call 7-9 PM on Friday, August 31 and 10-11 AM Saturday, September 1 at the funeral home. John 'Jay' Horvath, 59, a lifelong resident of Zion Grove, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 27th, 2018.

Jay was born in Shenandoah, PA on December 9, 1958, a son of the late Virginia A. (Green) and John M. Horvath.

He was a graduate of the West Hazleton High School, then attended the Williamsport Area Community College, where he studied diesel mechanics and heavy equipment operations.

For the past 34 years, Jay has been employed by PPL. Jay enjoyed trips to Disney, hunting and doing crossword puzzles as well as enjoying his pet dogs, Jethro, Casey and Buddy.

Jay is survived by his soulmate of 27 years, Tresa Ortona and by his three children, Michael, and his wife Danyelle Horvath of Maryland; Jayson Horvath of Texas and Tiffany Horvath of Maryland.

He is also survived by three sisters, Elizabeth, wife of William Hogan of Shenandoah; Mary Jane Horvath of Zion Grove and Annette, wife of Barry Dennison of Zion Grove and by 2 grandsons, John and Noah along with nieces and nephews.

Jay's family will receive friends from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday, August 31st at the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 West Main Street, Ringtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made to Animal Resource Center, 301A Boone Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.

Charles J. Gavenas, 70, of Pottsville, passed away Monday at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Shenandoah, April 5, 1948, a son of the late Charles and Anna Kubilus Gavenas

He was a United States Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Charles was of the Catholic Faith. He was a member of the AMVETS, Pottsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife Judith Lord Gavenas

Surviving are his five children, Lori Ann Longonberger, Shenandoah; Jesse Gavenas, Mahanoy City; Wayne Gavenas and Jennifer Gavenas both of Pottsville; Kimberly Gavenas, Hegins. One sister, Ann Marie Lombardo; one brother Edward Gavenas, both of Shenandoah. Several grandchildren and nieces.

Services with military honors will be held Friday, August 31st at 10:30 am from Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
