Schuylkill County Obituaries for 09/03/18

Raymond Hugh Conageski, 67, of Brooksville, FL passed away unexpectedly at home on August 30, 2018.

He was born to the late Raymond and Catharine (Donohue) Conageski February 14, 1951 in Tamaqua, PA. He married Ann (O’Dowd) Conageski January 7, 1978, who survives. Also surviving is his sister Kay Conageski, Plantation, FL, his three children Christine Conageski and her husband Matthew Hardy of Denver, CO; Michael (Elizabeth) Conageski of Spring Hill, FL, and Amanda Conageski and her husband Ryan Verey of Arlington, VA, and his beloved grandchildren: Mackenzie, Jackson, Audrey and Oliver. He will be dearly missed by his cousin Candy (Joel) Johns and his aunt, Beryl Donohue of Tamaqua, PA.
Ray was a graduate of Tamaqua High School class of 1969. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1973 as a student athlete competing on their football team. He received his Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1974. On October 31, 1974 he was hired as chemical engineer by DuPont and worked for the company for 40 years. He worked with amazing people, many of which are some of his dearest friends. Ray was an exuberant Philadelphia sports fan and lived long enough to see his beloved Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl called by his favorite play-by-play radio announcer, Merrill Reese. Ray loved baseball – he traveled around the country visiting baseball stadiums and volunteered as an umpire for middle and high school baseball games. He served as the commissioner of his world-famous fantasy leagues. In retirement, he volunteered weekly at the Bayfront Health Hospital in Brooksville, FL.

Ray was a dedicated and loving husband and father to his wife and three children. He was their biggest fan - cheered the loudest and beamed the brightest at all of their accomplishments. Most of all, he was a devoted grandfather to his four grandchildren. Always the pillar of strength and mayor of fun. He was most looking forward to seeing them grow up and teaching them the joys of sports, math and chemistry.
