Four Injured in Route 61 Crash Thursday Morning in Pottsville

Four people were injured in a crash on Route 61 Thursday morning in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police, On Thursday, November 8, 2018 around 9:55am emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Claude Lord Boulevard (Route 61) and Mauch Chunk Street for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Police say 48 year old Orwigsburg woman had been operating her Cadillac SRX4 south on Route 61 in the left lane, approaching the intersection with Mauch Chunk St., when a northbound vehicle on Route 61, a Chevy Sonic operated by Elizabeth Schaar, 84 of Barnesville, turned left in front of her vehicle causing a collision.

Both vehicles then veered in a southwest direction with the Cadillac coming to rest against a telephone pole. All persons involved in the accident were wearing their seat belts and multiple airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Both vehicle operators, along with a 19 year old female passenger in the Cadillac and an adult female passenger in Schaar’s vehicle, were transported to local medical facilities by Pottsville EMS for evaluation and treatment.

Yorkville Hose Fire Company assisted on scene with the extrication of passengers.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to being severely damaged.

Based on the results of the investigation, Pottsville Police will be charging Schaar with violating the PA Vehicle Code section pertaining to vehicles turning left.
