Police and SPCA Officials Investigating the Death of a Dog in Pottsville; Reward Offered

Pottsville Police and Animal Rescue Officials are investigating the death of an unidentified dog in Pottsville.

On Sunday, around 3:15pm, Pottsville Police received the report of the finding of the dogin the 800 block of North Second Street.

A representative from the SPCA was notified by phone that a deceased dog was lying off the roadway in that area and she notified police to meet her there. 

At that location a female deceased Pit Bull, brown and white in color, with several visible wounds was found to have been abandoned near a wooded area off the roadway. The dog was transported from the scene for a post mortem examination to be conducted.

According to SPCA Officials, the dog was reported to have suffered significant injuries but none were reported to be fatal.  Officials are still determining how the dog died.

Police along with the SPCA and animal control officers are attempting to identify and locate the dog’s owner along with any other available information associated with the incident.

UPDATE:  A $1,000 is being offered to anyone that can provide information that leads to an arrest.
