Patrick Wallace Kempsey, 92, Ashland, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Patrick W. and Anna Volkert Kempsey. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland.

Pat graduated from Easton High School in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in the Unites States Navy, serving during World War II aboard the USS Pinto in the South Pacific. Pat attended East Stroudsburg State Teacher’s College under the GI Bill and earned a degree in Health and Physical Education in 1950. While attending East Stroudsburg, he played baseball.

After college, he worked as the regional sales manager for Swift and Co., in Easton and Pottsville until 1968.

After leaving his career in sales, he became the Health and Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Director at Cardinal Brennan High School. Pat was a major pillar in the Cardinal Brennan community becoming the first head football coach.He also served as the head baseball coach and led the effort in the development of the sports fields. The fields were later dedicated in his honor, and became known as the Patrick W. Kempsey Sports Complex. He was fondly known as “Skipper.”

Pat was a member of the Jerry Wolman Northern Anthracite Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, John and Robert Kempsey.

Pat is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edith Ryan Kempsey, Ashland; his five children: Carol, wife of Tom Green, Gordon; Patrice, wife of Lou Rader, Ashland; Patrick and his wife Nellie Kempsey, Catasauqua; Anne, wife of Steve Cook, Palmyra; Robert and his wife Angel Kempsey, Gordon; his 11 grandchildren: Tim and Michael Rader; Libby Gough and Catherine Green; Patrick and Brian Kempsey; Riley, Sean and Emma Cook; Jack and Alli Kempsey; as well as his six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland. Friends may call at the church on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made, in Patrick’s name, to the Spartan Games for Students with Special Needs. Please make check payable to the North Schuylkill Activity Fund and mailed to North Schuylkill High School at 15 Academy Lane Ashland, PA 17921.

Mary A. Harahush, 94 years of age, a life long resident of New Ringgold, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018, at home in East Brunswick Twp. .

Widow of Steven Harahush who passed away on Nov. 5, 1985 she is survived by her sons; Martin S. Harahush and his wife Diane of Huntingtown, MD and Thomas W. Harahush and his wife Irma of Alexandria, VA; 4 grand children ; 6 great grand children

Born Wednesday, November 19, 1924 in New Ringgold, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Nicholas, and Mary (Semanchik) Augustine. She was also predeceased by; sisters, Olga Bench, Gloria Yacovelli, Irene Crabtree, and an infant sister; brothers, Elias, and Walter Augustine.

Mary was a member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church of Coaldale, a Tamaqua High School graduate, and enjoyed gardening.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252. (570) 668-2550.

A Funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock AM on Friday November 30, 2018 from St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church located at 217 First Street Coaldale, Pennsylvania 18218. Friends may call in church from 10:00 A.M. till time of services. Rector V. Rev. James Weremedic to officiate.

Interment will be in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, Pennsylvania.

Memorials in her name to St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church.

Mary E. Miller, 72, Ashland, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill East, Pottsville with her family at her side.

Born in Ashland, she was a daughter of the late William and Madalin Schmidt Roche. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Albert T. Miller in 2004; her son Michael Miller in 2010 and her two brothers: William Roche and Gerald Roche.

She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland.

Mary is survived by her daughter Michelle and her husband Michael Walnock, Ashland; her grandchildren: Grace Walnock, Alison Miller, Ryan and Benjamin Maurer; step-granddaughter, Haylee Walnock; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Roche Hand, Auburn; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland with Rev. Paul Rothermel, pastor, as the celebrant. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

Penny Alexis Pflueger, 80 of Fairport NY, formerly of Pottsville died Nov 9, 2018.

She was born November 13, 1937 in Pottsville a daughter of the late Clem and Mae Higgins Alexis.

She was a 1955 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School.

She was a lab technician at the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville, including various other hospitals prior to retiring. She was an active member of St. John of Rochester Roman Catholic Church, Fairport, NY.

Surviving are her husband Joseph L. Pflueger whom she married on August 22, 1964; a daughter, Suzanne Pflueger; a sister, Jayne Alexis Pfluger, Pottsville; niece and nephews including a close niece Kristin Pfluger, Deturksville and a great-niece Claire Pflueger.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Interment will be private at St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville. Local arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Charles C. "Luke" Erbe, 73 of Coaldale, Pennsylvania died suddenly on Monday, November 26, 2018, at home in the seek section of Coaldale.

Survivrd by his wife of fifty years, Janet Doris (Hill) Erbe; sons, Charles C. "Butch" Erbe, Jr. and Brian S. Erbe and his wife, Amy, daughter, Lori L. McLaughlin and her husband, Kevin, sisters, Dorothy Yanett and her husband, Bill, Phyllis Erbe, Vera Nederostek and her husband, Richard and Irene Fritzinger

Born Tuesday, May 29, 1945 in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. the son of the late Charles C. Erbe, Sr., and Helen (Halko) Erbe. He was also predeceased by a grand daughter, Christine Erbe.

Luke worked for many years at Hart Metal's of Tamaqua. He was an avid outdoorsman and served honorably in the United States Army.
