VFW Recognizes Ashland Area First Responders

On Saturday evening, the Ashland VFW held a banquet for the First Responders in the Ashland area.


Invited to the event were the Ashland Fire Department, Locust Dale Fire Department, Lavelle Fire Department, Gordon Fire Department, Fountain Springs Fire Department, Ashland EMS, Ashland Police, Ashland Fire Police, American Red Cross, the auxiliaries associated with the areas departments, and the elected officials of Ashland, Butler Township, and Gordon.

Roughly 60 members attended the event at the Ashland VFW.

Organizer of the event and VFW member Richard Harris said "We just wanted to show support for our local hero's who are out there every day and night making sure our communities are safe and for saving lives."

Attendees were treated to a meal, drinks, and music for DJ Rock-N-Racer.

A special program was held during the event with Ashland Fire Department Brandon Blank delivering prayer, Benediction by VFW Member Richard Harris,  remarks from Ashland Mayor Ray Walacavage, and Ashland Fire Chief Philip Groody who spoke about "volunteers" and the need for more of them in our communities.

The VFW hopes to makes this an annual event.
