Car Crashes Through "Welcome to Mahanoy City" Sign; Driver in Custody for DUI

No injuries were reported after a car crashed through a sign near the borough line for Mahanoy City.

According to Mahanoy Township Police, the crash occurred around 10:30am, Wednesday morning, when a vehicle heading East on Route 54 from Mahanoy Township into Mahanoy City, veered off the north side of the highway and crash through the "Welcome to Mahanoy City" sign.


The driver was not injured in the crash.  The vehicle required towing from the scene.  The driver was taken into custody for DUI.

Update:  Police have identified the driver as John Blaschock.   Blaschock was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and other violations.  He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in another county.
