Reported Home Invasion Causes Minersville School Lockdowns; Incident Still Under Investigation

On Monday, a reported home invasion prompted area police to put Minersville schools on lockdown.

According to Minersville Patrolman Jeffrey Bowers, an alleged home invasion occurred in the 400 Block of Carbon Street in the borough around 10:00am.

A 12 year old boy told police that a man wearing a black ski mask and a blue hooded sweatshirt entered his home and confronted him.  The boy said he thought the man was going to pull a gun on him and felt threatened, so he shot the man one time in the shoulder before he fled from the scene.

The boy described the man as being about 6 feet tall.

Due to the nature of the incident, Minersville schools in the area were put on "external" lockdown while the investigation took place.

Bowers said they did not find any evidence at the scene, like blood or anything, that a shooting took place.

Until the incident in investigated, Bowers said the suspect is being considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Minersville Police at (570) 544-2223.
