John "MOONEY" Hughes, 90, of Walnut Street, Ashland,PA passed away at the home of his daughter Linda, Sunday, May 26th, 2019.
 
Born in Ashland Aug. 2,1928 the son of the late Emerson and Rosetta (Ermert) Hughes. He graduated from Ashland High School class of 1946; worked as a industrial electrician for many years at Allied Signal, Cressona, PA until retirement. 

He was a member of the Ashland Fish & Game Club where he held the office as secretary, enjoyed Hunting & fishing. He was a Penn State fan and loved going to Disney. 

Preceding him in death was his wife Elizabeth (Weber) Hughes in 2013. Three brothers preceded him in death: Stanley, Leroy & Emerson Hughes. 

Two daughters survive: Linda wife of Kris Panikkar, Elysburg, PA and Sandra wife of Michael Kane of Ashland. Four grandchildren survive: Mark Brennan,Aristes,PA;Jonathan husband of Candace Hadesty, Gordon; Jillian wife of Robert Ennis, Ashland and Lindsay wife of Douglas Fetterolf, Lavelle. Great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Ennis; Everett, Kellan and Kinsley Hadesty and Kolton, Tyson and Devan Fetterolf. 

Nieces and nephews survive. Funeral Services will be held at Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home Inc., Ashland, PA, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 30th, . Interment at Brock Cemetery Ashland, PA. Louise Faye Logan , 74 years of age of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Survived by her husband of 55 years, Russell G. Logan; daughter, Susan Schmit wife of Bill of Naples, FL,; brothers, Frank Marks and his wife Dolly, John Marks; sisters, Alice Hutchenson and MaryAnn Kalinosky; grandchildren, Nick and Samantha; cousins, Joan McKay, Marguerite Chigirovich, Scott Marks. Many nieces and nephews survive Lousie.

Born Tuesday, November 21, 1944 in Spotswood, New Jersey the daughter of the late Frank Marks, Sr., and Mary elizabeth (Whitmore) Marks. She was also predeceased by her sister, Elaine Stolte.

A graduate of South River High School in New Jersey, Louise owned and operated Just Us Typesetting in Whitehall for over thirty years. Upon retiring, Louise enjoyed attending auctions and selling on E-bay. Louise was Lutheran by faith.

Charles E. Becker, Jr., 70 of Pottsville, died Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown.

He was born December 22, 1948 in Pottsville the son of the late Charles E., Sr. and Elizabeth Seymour Becker.

He was a graduate of Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville, where he was also assistant football coach for 40 years.

He was Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by Van Heusen.

Charlie was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, Post 1051, Walter Griffiths AMVETS Post 180, Goodwill Fire Co., Pottsville and was a social member of America Hose Fire Co., Pottsville.

Surviving are a close friend Linda Mosolino, Pottsville and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11am for St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. David J. Loeper as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10-11AM at the church. Memorial Contributions can be made to St. John Memorial Fund, 913 Mahantongo St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment with military honors will be at St. John No. 2 Cemetery, Pottsville. Arrangements are under the care of James B. Humphrey, F.D., James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Joan M. Reedy, 80, of Llewellyn, passed away Saturday morning at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.

Joan was a devoted mother,gramma, and great gramma who doted on her family with unconditional love. She had a passion for genealogy and history and was very dedicated to her church.

Born in Valley View, she was a daughter of the late Ray P. and Katie S. Ney Fisher.

Joan was a 1956 graduate of Minersville High School and a 2001 graduate of the McGann School of Business. She started her career as an administrative assistant for the CIA in Washington D.C. in 1956. She worked for several local businesses as an office secretary, then retired from Diakon Community Services where she continued volunteering for several more years. She was a member of the Llewellyn Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School for 12 years and was a Board Member of the Llewellyn Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert P. Fisher and a sister Bernice Brigham.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Debra Campion and her husband Brian, Llewellyn, Penny Holland and her husband Jeff, Mandeville La., and Amy Purcell and her husband Ed, Phoenix Park; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Tempalski, Christopher Campion, Megan Barnes, Tyler Holland, Alexa Holland, Breanna Holland, Chad Purcell and Kayleigh Purcell; 2 great grandchildren, Jax Ruddy and Giana Tempalski; a sister LaRae Klouser, West West Terrace and a brother John Fisher, Milton, Pa.; nieces and nephews.

Private Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville.

Richard “Dick” Wassel, aka “Red,” passed away April 18, 2019, at his home in Clermont, Florida, surrounded by his wife, Maggie, and brother-in-law, Mike, and sister-in-law, Kay.

Dick was born in Shenandoah, March 16, 1936, and was a son of the late Wanda Wassel.

He attended Annunciation Elementary School and then graduated from Shenandoah Catholic High. After graduation, he was at a loss as to what he wanted to do next, so he and his friends got together and decided to go to Thaddeus Stevens Trade School for two years, where he learned a trade in the then up and coming copier business. The school has now turned into Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. He was inducted into the Army on Sept. 24, 1958, and proudly served our country for two years, mostly in France and Germany.

Because of the training he received at Thaddeus Stevens, he was hired by Xerox Corp. in Philadelphia as a sales representative, selling copiers, and then moved to the Washington, D.C. area. He was with Xerox for 25 years and in that time, he became the top salesman 15 years in a row and won numerous trips in the continental U.S., Hawaii and Europe. He was extremely successful in the federal marketing area of Xerox and was promoted to a national account manager and headed up a national sales team who sold exclusively to the Department of Labor and the Department of Treasury.

He met his wife, Maggie, while working at Xerox and they were married April 21, 1980, in Rockville, Md., and were married 39 wonderful years.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his mother, was his brother, Al Wassel.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie; sons, Richard and David; daughters-in-law, Suzanne and Joan.

Religious services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Monsignor William F. Glosser will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Dick’s name to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or at www.stjude.org.

Mrs. Mary Catherine Hummel, 81 formerly of RD3 Pine Grove, died May 27, 2019 in Bon Secours Memorial Hospital, Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Born July 23rd, 1937 in Sweet Valley Pa. Mary was the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Hamersley. Her husband, Richard D. Hummel died in 1981. Mary was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her sons Mr. Douglas A. Hummel, Fleetwood Pa.: Mr. Mark H. Hummel, Wyalusing Pa.: and Mrs. Debra A. Somers, Petersburg Va.: 6 Grandchildren: 8 Great-Grandchildren. Sisters, Mrs. Bernadine Amorosi, Livingston N.J.: Mrs. Lois Phillips, Shickshinny Pa.: Brother, Gilbert Hamersley, Hunlock Creek Pa.
Family members that preceded her were brothers; Harry, Delbert, Donald, Clarence Jr., and Sam. Sisters: Virginia, Alpharetta, and Dolores,
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 at 3:45 P.M. from the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove Pa. with the Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. until 3:45 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove following the services.

Kay A. Ubil Moyer, 75, of Tow Path Lane, Pine Grove, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 at home.
Born on July 7, 1943 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Esther Smith Ubil.
Kay grew up in the community of Jalappa in Pottsville and her grandfather and father owned H. S. Ubil Furniture Store.
She worked for Reiders Shoe Co. in Schuylkill Haven as a shoemaker until it closed and worked for the Walk in Shoe Co. in Schuylkill Haven until that closed. She became a CNA and started working at the Tremont Nursing Home. She also worked for Cedar Haven in Lebanon and Rest Haven in Schuylkill Haven. She retired in 2018 from Schoolyard Square in Pine Grove where she mostly worked as a dietary aide. She was very well liked by the residents she cared for and she loved them all.
Kay had a heart of gold and was very supportive of her son's racing career. She could be found on a Friday night at Big Diamond watching him race. She was an avid singer and dancer and was a fan of American Band Stand and a lifelong Elvis fan. She liked to go camping, to the beach and traveling to see lighthouses.
She was a 50 year member of St. Peter' Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, member of the former Mary E. Moore Chapter No. 372 and was a Girl Scout Leader.
Preceding her in death was a brother Glen Ubil.
Surviving are her husband of almost 59 years, William R. Moyer, Sr., two daughters, Bernice and husband Korey Barr of Puyallup, WA, Justine and husband Todd Tice of Pine Grove; a son William Jr. and wife Lisa Moyer of Pine Grove; 6 grandchildren, Zachary Barr, Kelsey Leitner, Martha Vogel, Meredith Tice, Reagan and Rylie Moyer; great granddaughter Kamille Barr; sister Joy Sidella of Schuylkill Haven; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:30 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
