Cause of Overnight House Fire in Ashland Undetermined

Fire crews responded to a house fire overnight in Ashland.

Around 2:00am, Friday morning, Ashland Police were on patrol and smelled smoke and noticed a light haze in the area of the 100 Block of West Centre Street in the borough.  Ashland Fire Chief Philip Groody was called to the area for an investigation and found light smoke coming from an abandoned home at 3 Chestnut Street.

The American Hose Co. and Washington Fire Co., of Ashland, and Rangers Hose Co., of Girardville, were dispatched.

Crews found the smoke was coming from a small fire in the basement of the home.

Fire crews put out the fire, ventilated the home, and were on-scene for about an hour and a half before clearing.  The fire is still under investigation.

According to Chief Groody, the cause of the fire has been listed as "undetermined".
