A Kelayres man is facing a series of serious charges after allegedly assaulting a woman and preventing her from leaving a home over a dispute about money.
Lamont White, 56, was arraigned this week before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli on felony and misdemeanor counts related to the incident, which occurred on June 30 at a residence on Center Street.
According to court documents, state police were dispatched to the address after a woman reported she had been attacked and held against her will by White and a second individual, identified as Shirl Annette Moody, 60, also of Kelayres.
The victim told investigators she had been staying at the home when White and Moody began harassing her over money they believed she owed for vehicle impound fees. When she attempted to leave, she said, White physically assaulted her, including allegedly applying pressure to her neck. Moody also reportedly threatened further harm.
The woman said she was not allowed to leave the residence until she convinced them she had an appointment. She was later transported to the hospital by emergency medical services for treatment of her injuries.
White is charged with:
- Aggravated Assault (felony) for allegedly attempting to cause serious bodily injury with extreme indifference
- Aggravated Assault involving use of a deadly weapon
- Strangulation
- Two counts of Simple Assault
- Terroristic Threats
- False Imprisonment
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person
- Receiving Stolen Property
- Possession of a small amount of marijuana
Moody was charged separately with misdemeanor counts of False Imprisonment and Harassment. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30.
