Mahanoy City Couple Arrested for Stealing from Lottery Machine In Northumberland County

A Mahanoy City couple was taken into custody on Thursday after police said they were responsible for a theft earlier this month.

According to the Coal Township Police Department, on June 9th, 2019, a man and woman stole $809 from a Pennsylvania Skill Lottery Machine at the Sunoco Mt. Royal Mart in Ranshaw, Northumberland County.

Police were able to obtain security footage from the store and after posting the suspects photos on social media, they received numerous calls identifying the couple.

Police identified the suspects as Danielle Kapes, 38, and Chad Benjamin, 39, both of Mahanoy City and charged them with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy to commit theft.

Mahanoy City Police arrested the couple Thursday, who were then transferred to Northumberland County and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic.  Both were locked up in Northumberland County Prison unable to post $10,000 straight cash bail.
