Two from Schuylkill County ID'd as Victims in Fatal Crash in Berks County


Two from Schuylkill County have been identified as the victims in a crash in Berks County early Saturday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hamburg, around 3:30am, a two-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 78 eastbound near mile marker 43 in Greenwich Township, Berks County.

Police say Christopher Cornelius, 41, of Kentucky was operating a Chevrolet Captiva when he ran into the rear of a Jeep Wrangler driven by Nicholas Winter, 56, of Auburn.

After the collision, the Jeep left the roadway and traveled down an embankment.

Nicholas Winter, 56, and Nicholas Winter, 26, of Auburn, died from the injuries in the crash.  Also in the Jeep, Lisa Winter, 55, suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Cornelius, suffered minor injuries.

State Police are asking anyone with information who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Hamburg Station at (610) 562-6885.
