Coroner Called to Shamokin Fire; Schuylkill County Fire Units Called

A fire in Shamokin early Tuesday has become fatal.

Around 5:45am, emergency personnel were dispatched to 15 North Franklin Street, Shamokin, for a working structure fire with possible entrapment.

The first crews on scene confirmed the entrapment with the fire spreading between multiple row homes.

A Northumberland County coroner was later called to the scene.

As of 9:00am, crews were still at the scene fighting the fire.  No other details were available.

The Washington Fire Co., Ashland, was called to the scene for their ladder, Englewood Fire was called for their RIT, and the Rangers Hose Co. from Girardville moving up their assignment to cover the borough of Kulpmont.
