Mahanoy City to Receive Federal Grant to Purchase New Police Vehicle and Plow Truck

Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) announced that the borough of Mahanoy City has been awarded $72,000 in federal grants by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development.

In a release from Meuser's office, it states the grants will be used to purchase a 2019 Ford Police Interceptor with equipment and a Ford F-250 XL Truck and Plow. With the addition of a new police vehicle, the police department will be able to patrol at times when they currently can’t, helping to facilitate a safer environment by better servicing areas in the community. The plow truck will also enable increased road service during inclement weather.

“The significant funding awarded to Mahanoy City will help to promote a safer home for residents and increase coverage for its police force,” said Meuser. “Safety is a top priority in our district and I will continue to advocate for expanded resources to provide law enforcement with the tools they need for success.”

“The Borough of Mahanoy City would like to thank Tonya St. Clair, loan specialist from the Lehigh Area Office of the U.S Department of Agriculture, and Congressman Meuser’s office for their assistance in obtaining this grant,” said Cindy Soley, Mahanoy City Borough Manager. “We are deeply appreciative of this federal funding and look forward to their continued support in the future in helping our municipality grow and serve our citizens more effectively.”
