Robert Franklin Kantner Sr, "Red", 83, of Boynton Beach, FL, died Saturday, May 25, 2019 while in hospice care at Bethesda Hospital East in Boynton Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley A. Knoll. 

Born in Tamaqua, PA on August 3, 1935, Bob was the son of the late Harvey R. and Dorothy E.J. (nee Markle) Kantner. He joined the National Guard after graduating high school and later attended John Hopkins University, earning a BS in electrical engineering. Bob was a Professional Engineer with several patents and had developed products in many fields. He worked for Westinghouse on radar tracking systems for Gemini launches. Bob worked for many years with IBM on EMC research and product development using the PC and other controllers. He enjoyed flying his plane, attending Bike Week in Daytona Beach, rounds of golf, playing the piano and keyboard, and celebrating with family and friends. 

Bob is survived by his loving partner, Maribeth Weaver of Boynton Beach, FL; his children, Robert Kantner, Jr. and his wife Christine of Chapel Hill, NC, Bryan Kantner and his wife Jane of Hyde Park, NY, Barry Kantner and his wife Catherine of Gainesville, FL, Sharon Kantner of Fussa, Japan, Kimberly Kantner of Orlando, FL, and Bradley Kantner and his wife Andrea of Parkland, FL; grandchildren, Timothy, Debra, Bryan, Burton, Thomas, Megan, Caitlin, Brandi, and Montgomery; and great-granddaughters, Abigail, Penelope, Eleanor, and Margot. 

Other survivors include his sister, Carol A. and her husband M. Richard Biehl of Hamburg, PA; nieces and nephews, Lori (nee Biehl) and her husband Jeffrey Mergel of Bethlehem, PA, Lisa (nee Biehl) and her husband Kent Weidemoyer of Blandon, PA, and Bradley Biehl and his wife Heather of Blandon, PA; and 5 great-nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call 10-11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. Online condolences may be made at www.zgfuneralhome.com.
