6 Injured in Three Vehicle Crash Interstate on Thursday

Five people from Schuylkill County were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 78 on Thursday afternoon.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hamburg, the crash occurred around 6:30pm in Greenwich Township, Berks County, near Mile marker 42.5 in the westbound lanes of Interstate 78.

Police say crash occurred as three vehicles were travelling westbound on Interstate 78.

Police say, Anthony Gasbarra, 28, of Cressona made an unsafe lane change where the left front of his Saab 93 made contact with the right side of a Dodge Caravan being driven by Zaheer Akram, 28, of Carlisle.

After making contact, Gasbarra's vehicle then struck the trailer of a Kenworth Northwest being driven by Steven Denotsko, 57, of Lewistown.

Gasbarra's vehicle then struck a concrete median wall and rolled, coming to a rest on it's roof in the left westbound lane of traffic.

Gasbarra was reported to have suffered minor injuries in the crash while a passengers Kaitlin Ingram, 25, of Cressona, Hunter Slavinsky, 19, of Orwigsburg, Kenaniah Karahuta, 22, of Shenandoah, and a 5 year old suffered injuries of unknown severity.

All five victims were taken to a hospital in the Lehigh Valley via Kutztown Area Transport Services.

Denotsko, the driver of the tractor trailer, was reported to have sustained minor injuries but was not transported.
