Ashland Junior Girl Scouts Presented with Bronze Award

Three Ashland Junior Girls Scouts were presented last week with the Bronze Award.

Last Monday, November 11, 2019 , Ava Hubler, Elizabeth Nahodil, and Katelyn Nahodil were officially presented their Bronze Awards, earned while they were Junior level Scouts.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. These girls completed multiple steps to reach this achievement.

The Bronze Award project selected by the girls was to create a book collection of new and gently used books for those who utilize the Ashland Area Food Bank. Books can be taken and kept or brought back and exchanged. The girls selected this project after learning more about literacy and the impact of socio-economic factors. They recognized that those who utilize the food bank may not be able to purchase books of their own. They organized a book drive to get the collection started and continue to receive donations from family, friends and community members.

Members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Rev. Dana Beil have been supportive of these efforts, providing a permanent home for the bookshelves and helping to fill them.

A special thanks to the family that donated the book shelves

Girl Scout Leader, Deborah Hubler said "These girls are making a difference in the world with direct impact in their local community. We are so very proud of their achievement and the example they are setting for our younger members."
