Runaway Truck Strikes Owner; Rolls Downhill and Takes Out Pole in Locustdale

A man was struck by his own truck as it rolled down a hill in Locustdale on Saturday afternoon.

Just after 3:00pm on Saturday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of Hill Road in Locustdale for a motor vehicle accident involving a truck hitting a pole and pedestrian.

According to personnel at the scene of the incident, a man was working on a pickup at the top of Hill Road, when for unspecified reasons, the truck began to roll down the hill.  The owner attempted to jump in the pickup but fell and was struck by the truck.

The truck rolled down the hill, across Route 54 and took out a utility police at the intersection with Lavelle Road.

The man was checked out by emergency personnel but refused treatment.

Lavelle Road was closed to higher vehicles for a period of time due to wires hanging low, but has since reopened..

Lavelle Fire handled the scene until PPL arrived and temporarily fixed the pole.

Also responding to the scene was the Washington Rescue and Ambulance.
