Santa Parade, Old Fashioned Christmas Welcome Holiday Season to Ashland

This past Saturday, the borough of Ashland spent the entire day celebrating and welcoming the Christmas season.

The day began with a Ginger Bread House Contest at the Ashland American Legion.  Eight teams of 2 (one under 14, other over 14), and built Ginger Bread Houses with the materials they were provided.

In the afternoon, the annual Santa Parade was held with Santa being led down Walnut Street in the borough, to Hoffman Boulevard, and then to the Mother's Memorial where over 100 children were waiting to meeting the Jolly Old Elf to tell them what they wanted for Christmas.  Each child received a goodie bag with a gift from Santa inside.  Santa also posed for photos with borough officials and officially lit the borough's Christmas Tree.

In the evening, the annual Old Fashioned Christmas was celebrated on 5th Street next to and inside the American Legion.

Carolers from the Ashland Community Choir sang Christmas Carols, free horse and buggy rides were available, and children were able to meet and get their photo with the Grinch.

Fire Chief Phil Groody also sat with the children that attended and read the Night Before Christmas.

Later in the evening, the awards were announced for the winners of the Gingerbread House Contest, the borough's house decorating contest,  as well as the event's 50/50 winners.

We will have a listing of all winners in a later posting.
