Peter Herniak, 88 of Elysburg, PA passed away peacefully Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Geisinger-Shamokin Hospital, Coal Twp., PA.

Born in Mahanoy Plane, PA. June 13, 1931 the son of the late Andrew and Eva (Seninovich) Herniak. Peter lived most of his adult life in Elysburg, PA and was an active, beloved member of the community. "Petey" was liked by everyone and had friends everywhere he traveled. Peter loved to tell a story and enjoyed entertaining his friends and making people laugh. Peter's memory was long and pristine. Peter enjoyed attending mass at Holy Rosary Church. He loved to go out to eat and socialize. Peter spent a great deal of time at Knoebels. Staff at Knoebels were very kind to Peter and made him feel like he was part of their family. Peter could accomplish anything he set his mind to. He was very inventive, resilient and resourceful. He liked to build with his two hands. He built himself furniture, storage and devices to make his life easier. However, his all time favorite hobby was riding his bike. Peter was an amazing man and human being. It was an honor to call him a friend. He was honest, he was loyal, he was extremely giving and selfless. His life motto was to be kind to others in the hope that others would be kind to him back. The world was a much better place with him in it.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by two brothers; John and Nicholas Herniak.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Rothermel-Heizenroth Funeral & Cremation Service, Elysburg, Rev. Joseph Scanlan officiating. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Viewing from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Margaret “Maggie” Mary Alonge, 66, of Dairy Road, West Penn Township, PA died on Monday, December 9, 2019 at home. She and her husband Samuel Alonge have been together 41 years.

Born in Coaldale, PA on February 19, 1953, Maggie was a daughter of the late Edward and Ann (nee Coury) Demyanovich. A 1971 graduate of Tamaqua High School, she owned and operated “Pampered Pets” dog grooming salon.

Maggie was very active with the Tamaqua SPCA when it was located in Tamaqua. She was a member of The Parish of St. John XXIII, Tamaqua.

In addition to her husband Sam, Maggie is survived by a daughter, Sally Anne Alonge and her companion Ryan Matalavage of West Penn Township; grandchildren, Thaddeus Matalavage and Axel Matalavage; sisters, Cathy Datchko of Tamaqua, Anne McLaughlin and her husband Frank of Canton, NY, and Edward Demyanovich and his wife Tracy of Hometown, PA; several nieces; and several great nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Demyanovich in 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, December 14 in St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine Street, Tamaqua. Call 9 AM – 12 PM on Saturday at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Memorials in Maggie’s name may be made to the Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue, 227 Hunter Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252.

Louise E Mack, age 90, of Valley View, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Mt Carmel Senior Living Center.

She was born on Thursday, March 21, 1929, in Huntington Valley, a daughter of the late Joseph O'Brien and the late Florence Weinhardt O'Brien.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View.

Louise was a life long Phillies fan, enjoyed watching Penn State Football, and dining out.

Her husband, Gustav Mack, passed away in 2004.

Louise had nine siblings. She is survived by a son, Kenneth D Mack and his wife Jody of Valley View; a grandson, Ryan K Mack of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Alison N Mack of Lititz; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View.

Burial will be made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 153, Valley View, PA 17983.

Lynn D Klinger, age 68, of Orwigsburg Center, formerly of Valley View, passed away Tuesday, 
December 10, 2019 at Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg.
He was born on Wednesday, April 11, 1951, in Pottsville, a son of the late Arthur E Klinger and the late Mildred A Schwartz Klinger.
He was a 1969 graduate of Tri-Valley High School.
Lynn had worked at Johnson and Baillee Shoe Co, Muskin Shoe Co, Hollingers, and Light Artistry.
He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View; where he served as usher.
He was also a member of the Tri-Valley JC's and the former Valley View Fire Company. Lynn was the Honorable Mayor of Orwigsburg Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister in law, Lynnette Klinger.
He is survived by two brothers, Stephen M Klinger and his wife Beverly of Valley View and Karl E Klinger of Allentown; two nephews, Jason L Klinger and Adam J Klinger both of Allentown; two nieces, Danielle E Klinger-Grumbine of Harrisburg and Erika S Thomas of Nutley, NJ; and a great nephew, Benjamin L Grumbine.
Funeral services will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Duane Bardo officiating.
A viewing will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.

Evelyn Coleman Walton Berger, age 95, of Schuylkill Haven, PA, died Sunday, December 8th, at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, PA.

Mrs. Berger was born Pottsville, PA, a daughter of the late Charles E. & Helen Coleman Walton Umbenhauer.

She graduated from Pottsville High School, and is a graduate and post-graduate of the Braun School of Music in Elocution & Dramatic Art. She also attended Strayer-Bryant Business College, Baltimore, MD.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Berger, in 1992, and her son, Carl F. Berger, in 2018.

She was employed by Zulick's Factory, and the American Argo Corp., Schuylkill Haven, for over 26 years until her retirement in 1988. She served two years as president of their Social Club.

Mrs. Berger was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven, a former member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, the Ladies Aide and Leader of the Ladies Day Out group until it disbanded in 2010.

She was a member of the former Pottsville Chapter #305, now Orwigsburg Chapter #424, Order of the Eastern Star, Schuylkill Valley Past Matrons Association, Pottsville, and served four terms as Worthy High Priestess, and six terms as Watchman of Shepherds of the former Galilean Shrine #34, Pottsville, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Reading. She was also past president of the PA State White Shrine Club of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Past High Priestess of the former Minyah Court #24 of Ladies Oriental Auxilary #286, Cressona, PA. She also belonged to the Schuylkill Haven, and Orwigsburg Senior Citizens groups, and was a charter member of the Schuylkill County Quilter's Guild.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marie Berger, Schuylkill Haven, three granddaughters: Carleen Mulholland (Shane), Reading, PA, Kristie Henry (Stefan), Red Lion, PA, and Cheryl Bausher (Mark), Sinking Spring, PA, as well as three great-grandsons: Benjamin, Matthew, & Joshua, twin great-granddaughters: Kendall & Lauren, sister, Lois Weiss, Coudersport, PA, and brother, Charles Walton, Cressona, and nieces & nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10 a.m. on Thursdsay. Friends & family are invited to gather from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

John H. Whelski, 71 of Pottsville, died Saturday at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

He was born November 1, 1948 in Pottsville son of the late, Paul and Catherine Leonard Whelski.

He was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School

John was the owner of Whelski Fencing installing fences, remolding and building decks.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Paul; two sisters, Cecelia and Catherine.

Surviving are his wife, Judith Morris Whelski; a daughter, Valerie Shappell and her husband David; a son, Carl Shrom and his wife Heather; grandchildren, Kyle Shappell and his fiancé Lynsey; Kaitlyn Doboni and her husband Ivan; Madison Shappell, Mandy and Brynn Shrom; a great-grandson Bentley Shappell; a sister, Susan Killmer and her husband Jerry.

Service of remembrance will be held 12PM Saturday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10AM until the time of services. Memorial contributions can be made to James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 1112. W. Market St. Pottsville PA, 17901, to help defray some funeral cost.
