Elvena K. Riegel, 89, of Orwigsburg, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, at her residence.

Born in Pine Grove, March 20, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Simon M. & Elvena (Mease) Bohr.

She was the widow of Claude F. Riegel.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elvena was preceded in death by her stepfather, Arthur Rupp; siblings, Harvey Bohr, Helen Rohrer, Reba Bohr, Raymond Bohr and Anna Rupp; a great-great-granddaughter, Kaja Houtz.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Orwigsburg.

Elvena had worked as a sewing machine operator at Argo Mills. She was a life member of Jefferson Grange, and made funnel cakes.

Elvena is survived by a daughter, Emma Kohr and husband, Larry, of Orwigsburg; grandchildren, Loriann Weller, Tina Kohr, Sara Kohr, Jennifer Zvorsky and John Kohr; 15 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Raeanna Rupp, of Orwigsburg.

Celebration of Life funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, with Jamie Barton officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

Madeline T. McGovern, 100 of Pottsville died Friday at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

She was born May 18, 1919 in Pottsville daughter of the late James A. and Catherine Nieder Bean.

She worked for former W.T. Grant 5 and Dime, Sun Ray Drug Store and H.L. Green all of Pottsville.

Madeline was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. "Hap" McGovern on April 12, 1990; a grandson, Rev. Joseph F. Reilly on Sept 30, 2012; a son-in-law Francis J. Reilly on Feb 22, 2019; a brother, James A. Bean; 2 sisters, Anna McGee and Carolyn Alligers.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara A. Reilly; 2 granddaughters, Trish Reilly, Lisa Brennan and her husband Scott; great-granddaughter, Meghan Glessner; Nieces and Nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and Friends are invited to a viewing Thursday from 9:30-10:30AM at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions be made to St. Joseph Center for Special Learning, 2075 W. Norwegian St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.

Jo Ann Thomas, 71, of Pine Grove, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.

Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Wensky Mincavage.

She was a graduate of Minersville Area High School. She worked as a Teacher’s Aid in the local schools. She was a member of St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, Minersville.

She is survived by her husband Joseph, a son, a sister Joette Vargo, Minersville.
