Santa Arrives to Light Mahanoy City Christmas Tree

On Saturday evening, the borough of Mahanoy City kicked off the Christmas holiday season with their annual tree lighting.

The event was organized by the borough's Tree Lighting Committee and brought together the borough's organizations to celebrate at Veteran's Memorial Park, located at Centre and Catawissa Streets.

Prior to the tree lighting, a special chorale program was held which included music from Mahanoy City CCD, Mahanoy Area Elementary Band directed by Jamie Bishop, Alivia Economy & Tabbatha Ward, Madison Dency, Anna McCabe, and the Blackties & Pearls Victorian Carolers.

The Master of Ceremony for the program was Lisa Broomell.

At 6:00pm, Santa Claus and Mahanoy City Mayor Dennis Wiessner arrived via a Leiby's Horse Drawn Carriage led by the Mahanoy Area High School Band.

With a countdown from the crowd, Santa lit the borough's Christmas tree and started the holiday season for the borough.

Other entertainment at the event includes free horse drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa at the Humane Fire Company, Make your own s'mores at the Humane Fire Company, and food and vendors from local organizations.

The Mahanoy City Social Club has provided Christmas Tree and Light for the borough since 1937.
