Shenandoah Man in Custody After Police Chase and Standoff in Virginia

A man from Shenandoah is locked up in jail in the state of Virginia after he led police in a pursuit and standoff over the weekend.

According to the Smyth County Sheriff's office, just after midnight early Sunday, a Sheriff's deputy clocked a Ford Pickup being driven by Edward Ney III, 25, of Shenandoah, travelling at a high rate of speed in a construction zone on Interstate 81.

The deputy attempted to pull over the Ney, but instead Ney accelerated.  A chase ensued of Exit 47, onto Highway 11, and ending in a field in Atkins, VA.

At this point, a short standoff occurred where Ney made multiple threats that he had a firearm.

A Sheriff's Emergency Response Team and the Virginia State Police Tactical Team was called where Ney was then taken into custody.

Ney was already wanted in Pennsylvania on other charges but was charged for this incident for speeding, reckless driving, felony eluding, improper registration, no driver's license, obstruction of justice, possession of burglary tools, grand larceny, and use of a smoke screen device.
