$100,000 Worth of Cocaine Seized in Berks County Traffic Stop

A traffic stop on Wednesday in Berks County led to the finding of $100,000 worth of cocaine.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Jonestown, on Wednesday, February 26th, 2020, around 3:45pm, a traffic stop was conducted on Interstate 78 near mile marker 113 on Richard Jones III, 25, of Charlottesville, VA.

Police say during the traffic stop, criminal activity was detected, and a probably cause search was conducted on Jones' Nissan Sentra.

During the search, a vacuumed sealed package containing a kilogram of cocaine was located in the trunk of the vehicle.  The street value of the cocaine was estimated around $100,000.

While the search was being conducted, a passenger in the vehicle, Trai'Vone Ferguson, 24, of Radiant, VA,  attempted to flee on foot after both were told to place their hands behind their backs.

The Trooper subdued Ferguson by using a tazer and was taken into custody after a short struggle.

Jones was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a communication facility, 4 counts of conspiracy, and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection.

Ferguson was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a communication facility, 4 counts of conspiracy, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and resisting arrest.

Both were transported to the Berks County Central Booking where they were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kim Bagenstose.
