Four People Injured in Early Morning Shooting at a Bar in Pottsville

Four people were injured in an early morning shooting in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Saturday, February 29th, 2020 around 2:15am, a Pottsville Bureau of Police officer on patrol heard a disturbance near the area of Woody’s Bar located at 204 Peacock Street.

Immediately upon beginning to investigate the cause of the disturbance the officer heard several shots fired in the area of a large crowd of people gathered to the rear of the establishment.

Wojciechowsky said that during the course of the police response to the deadly threat posed by the suspect(s) a Pottsville Bureau of Police officer encountered an armed male and fired his/her weapon to stop the threat.

Because of the appropriate emergency response action taken by the Pottsville officer the investigation is being handled by the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s office and the Pa State Police as per Pottsville Bureau of Police policy.

At this time four people are being treated at various medical facilities for gunshot injuries and the investigation is active with crime scene processing, video collection and witness interviews.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pa State Police at 570-754-4600.

As of daybreak, law enforcement was still at the bar investigating the scene.
