Schuylkill County Man Claims $300,000 Prize from PA Lottery as Youngest Child Battles Stage IV Cancer

Ken S. of Schuylkill County walked into Pennsylvania Lottery Headquarters in Middletown to claim his $300,000 prize. He brought his wife and three children along.

He said his youngest, who is six years old, battled stage IV cancer. “This prize will help with medical bills,” said Ken, with a sigh of relief. “He just finished his chemo.”

On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Ken won big playing the holiday-themed $10 Scratch-Off game Secret Santa. He purchased the winning ticket at the EZ Market in Andreas.

“I didn’t even want this ticket,” said Ken. “I was going to splurge, but had some change.” Ken realized he’d won at work that morning. “Out the door I went,” said Ken, who immediately left work to claim his prize. He said his supervisor was nice about the win and very understanding that he had to leave. He first called his wife to tell her the good news. The only thing is, Carmen said, is that he jokes around a lot. “I thought he was joking!” laughed Carmen. “I was and still am in disbelief.”

Congratulations, Ken!
