12 Year Old Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle on Route 443

A boy was seriously injured Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle on Route 443 near Pine Grove on Sunday afternoon.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred around 12:15pm, Sunday afternoon, on Route 443 near the Intersection with Old Forge Road in Pine Grove Township.

Police say the incident occurred as a 12 year old boy from Pine Grove was travelling through the T-Intersection of Old Forge Road and Route 443 on a bicycle.

As the boy travelled through the intersection, he failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a Volkswagen Golf, driven by Richard Gartner, 32, of Pine Grove, travelling eastbound.

The boy sustained serious bodily injuries from the impact and was transported to Hershey Medical Center by Schuylkill County EMS.

Gartner did not suffer any injuries but his vehicle required towing from the scene.

Police were assisted by the Pine Grove Fire Department, Schuylkill County Paramedics, Schuylkill County EMS, Hammer's Towing, and fire police.
