Commissioner Staudenmeier Remembered as Family Man and for His Dedication to Schuylkill County

Schuylkill County Commissioner Frank Staudenmeier died suddenly at the age of 69 on Saturday, and now his family, friends, and colleagues are remembering him as a family man for his dedication to Schuylkill County.

Staudenmeier died Saturday in Florida with his wife Kate.

Official word came late Saturday from his friend, colleague, and fellow Commissioner George Halcovage,

"We lost a friend and colleague who left an amazing legacy on Schuylkill County". said Halcovage.

"Frank was dedicated to Schuylkill County and he was a man who loved his community and his family" added Halcovage.

Commissioner Gary Hess said "Frank's favorite line was 'It's a good day for Schuylkill County', but today is a sad day for Schuylkill County. Schuylkill County is sad today for his loss".

On Sunday afternoon, Schuylkill County Republican Chairman said in a statement "Frank Staudenmeier was truly a great guy and dedicated public servant. He loved his family and our area immensely. We will all miss his wisdom, leadership and loving personality forever, and he will be revered as a legendary Commissioner in the history of our county."

Staudenmeier was a lifelong resident of Ashland/Butler Township area, where he lived with his wife Kathleen, has two children, Stacey and Scott, and four grandchildren.

Staudenmeier became Schuylkill County Commissioner in 2002.

He was employed for 24 years as Area Manager and Community Development Director for Pennsylvania Power & Light Electric Utilities Corporation.  He completed his education at Immaculate Heart High School, Girardville, Lehigh County Community College, Bloomsburg University and Penn State University.

Staudenmeier is a past member of the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Board of the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation and was Past President and member of the Board of Director for Schuylkill County United Way. 

He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, Ashland Community Enterprises, and Schuylkill Community Action. 

In 1992, Staudenmeier was named Schuylkill County Business Man of the Year.

He served as President and Board Member for both the Manufacturers Association of Mid-Eastern PA and the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. Staudenmeier formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Shamokin Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Council of Northeastern PA; Shamokin Downtown Revitalization Corporation; Shamokin Area Industrial Corporation; Schuylkill County Council of the Arts and the Lower Anthracite United Way.

Frank was extremely active in coaching youth sports including serving as President and manager of Ashland Teener League and Ashland Area Girls Softball Association and Secretary and Manager of Ashland Little League. He is also a member of the Ashland Kiwanis Club and Ashland Elks Club.

Staudenmeier was one of 6 people that were instrumental in starting the Ashland Area Girls Softball Association almost 30 years ago.

Staudenmeier was inducted into the County Commissioner Association of Pennsylvania "Academy for Excellence." He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool Organization.

Frank was also elected as Chairman of the County Commissioner’s Association of Pennsylvania Investment Committee and was also appointed to the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Counties Health Insurance Cooperative.
